Edward M. Olson

Of Counsel

Edward Olson brings decades of legal expertise to Esshaki Legal. A lifelong Michigander, he is a seasoned attorney with over three decades of experience. A graduate of Michigan State University (BA, Political Science, highest honors) and Wayne State University Law School (JD, 1985), he is admitted to practice in Michigan State Courts, U.S. District Courts, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Edward specializes in commercial litigation, estate planning, securities law, and general civil matters. An arbitrator for FINRA and a trained mediator, he also teaches business law and ethics and lectures on legal topics.

Born in Detroit, Edward Olson has lived his whole life in Michigan.  He graduated from Michigan State University in 1982 with a BA in Political Science, with highest honor, as a Member of the Honors College, Phi Beta Kappa, and with many other honors. He graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 1985 with his J.D.  He passed the Michigan Bar and was admitted to all State Courts in Michigan that same year.  Since then Edward Olson has been admitted to the Eastern and Western Districts of the United States District Courts, the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

 

Edward Olson started his legal career as “in-house” counsel for the only national securities firm based in Detroit. He also worked as in-house counsel for the Michigan subsidiary of a Fortune 50 company.  After that, he moved into private practice, first as an associate in a large Michigan law firm.  He also worked in a mid sized law firm and later as the managing partner of two small law firms, from 1996 until 2006, when he opened Olson Law Firm. 

 

He now focuses his practice on a range of areas including commercial litigation, corporate planning, estate planning, securities (including securities arbitration), contracts, employment, real estate and other general civil matters including bankruptcy.  He is an arbitrator for FINRA (formerly known as NASD and NYSE).  He is a trained facilitator/mediator and a case evaluator for the Oakland County Circuit Court.  He has taught business law and ethics classes at Oakland University, Oakland Community College and Macomb Community College.  He has  lectured on securities, estate planning and other issues.
